When we talk about gender equality in Europe, it is very easy to see that is something very far from being achieved, even as far as it concerns the art of making movies. This situation, however, is about to be changed: the upcoming generation of female european directors are imposing themselves more and more among the european movie scene with their full-length films.
Isola del Cinema wants to focus on the contribution that women bring to the movie scene with their amazing strength and determination: over the past few years we have been shining our spotlights on filmakers of a given country, and this year’s third edition is dedicated to German female directors, chosen for their innovative and unique point of view.
Thanks to the cooperation of the Goethe-Institut, we were able to select seven movies that will be shown in their original version.
The inauguration of this film exhibition will start in the Arena with the projection of the movie “Toni Erdmann” directed by Maren Ade and it will continue at the Cinelab, finding its end with the screening of Ade’s first film “Alle Aderne”, with which she won the Silver Bear at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival.
